Glycol Chillers
Ammonia glycol chillers are industrial refrigeration systems that use ammonia (NH₃) as the primary refrigerant and glycol (a secondary coolant) to indirectly cool processes or spaces. This setup is common in industries where safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility are priorities. Ammonia Glycol Chillers can provide -10°C to -30°C chilled glycol.
What Is It?
-
Ammonia is used in a closed refrigeration loop to chill glycol (usually ethylene or propylene glycol).
-
The chilled glycol is then circulated to cool products, equipment, or spaces — indirect cooling.
Key Features:
1. Ammonia as Primary Refrigerant
-
Natural, eco-friendly (ODP = 0, GWP = 0)
-
Excellent thermal efficiency
-
Suitable for low- and medium-temperature cooling applications
2. Glycol as Secondary Coolant
-
Non-toxic and non-flammable solution circulated in a separate loop
-
Allows safe cooling in areas where ammonia can't be used directly
-
Ideal for food processing and public spaces
3. Indirect Cooling System
-
No ammonia exposure in the production or occupied areas
-
Enhances safety by isolating ammonia to a dedicated machine room
4. Energy-Efficient Operation
-
Ammonia’s high latent heat means lower refrigerant charge and better efficiency
-
Glycol retains cold well and allows for stable temperature control
5. Versatile Temperature Range
-
Can cool glycol down to -10°C to -30°C or more, depending on system design
-
Supports both refrigeration and process cooling
6. Robust Industrial Design
-
Built for continuous, heavy-duty use
-
Components include:
-
Ammonia compressor (screw or reciprocating)
-
Plate or shell-and-tube heat exchangers
-
Glycol pump and storage tank
-
Insulated piping and control valves
-
7. Advanced Control Systems
-
Equipped with automated PLC/SCADA systems for precise temperature, pressure, and flow control
-
Includes safety alarms, leak detectors, and shutdown systems for ammonia
8. Environmentally and Operationally Safe
-
Ammonia stays contained in the refrigeration loop
Glycol loop is non-toxic and safe to circulate near food or people
